No, it's not a funeral procession and yes they they are actually mourning. The above picture is that of Manchester United players mourning the death of their dream to lift the most coveted trophy in Europe this season.
Manchester United went into the last match of their group stage games knowing that nothing short of a win would guarantee their progression into the round of 16. One thing is knowing and another thing is actually doing.
| Not exactly the toughest group |
The game against Wolfsburg ended in a 3-2 victory for the German side but don't be fooled by the scoreline, United didn't put up much of a fight. One of their goals was actually scored by Wolfsburg's Guilavogui.
It all started well for United with their marquee signing Anthony Martial scoring the opener ten minutes into the game. That lead didn't last for more than three minutes before the German side responded in kind with an equalizer from Naldo. The situation still looked salvageable even after after United went behind in the 29th minute courtesy of a cracker that will definitely be up for goal of the season from Vieirinha.. An own goal made it all level in the 82nd minute and all United had to do was to score a goal and the dream would have been kept alive. Easier said than done. Two minutes after the own goal, Wolfsburg were back with another goal from Naldo. Notable mention to the former Schalke player Draxler who did well to orchestrate the game in the best way possible for Wolfsburg

The bad news is that they are out of the UEFA Champions League but they are still in an European competition. This is all thanks to the much the ugly cousin of the Champions League, the Europa league which happens to be the most despised league by the top teams in Europe
Will they push to win it or decide it won't be worth their status and drop out early? That remains to be seen.
| To win or not to win, that's the questiion |
A lot of questions will be asked of Louis Van Gaal and his "philosophy" after a dismal showing in the UCL despite spending big during the summer
